An eyepiece lens is an optical component in a microscope, telescope, or binoculars device. Working as a secondary magnifying element placed close to the observer's eye, the eyepiece lens ensures a view of clarity and detail while remaining safe on the eye.
The design of an eyepiece lens differs considerably depending on the application. Orthoscopic and wide-angle eyepieces are common but differ as per their benefits. For example, Plossl lenses are known for their balance between performance and value. Hence, they are often used by beginner astronomers. Orthoscopic eyepieces, on the other hand, are better suited for scientific research because of their minimum distortion coupled with superior sharpness. Wide-angle eyepieces take a wide-angle view with an expansive field of view suitable for wide-field astral landscaping.
